Aloha Friday # 2

kodakkodak

This ALoha Friday edition no. 2 deals with one of the recipes I do on Sundays. I’m not a good cook but as long as my husband and my children enjoy, nilaga (Pork, or Beef stew), tinola (chicken stew) and sinigang (pork, or beef in tamarind soup/broth ), then i can consider myself an excellent cook. Good thing about these dishes is that soup, vegetables and meat are served in one dish only, completing the food pyramid with rice. I think that’s the beauty in my cooking, the main idea is to serve what my family enjoys, afterall, I am not cooking for the world’s taste buds but for them.

Once in a while, I try something new and last Sunday, I have tried this Braised Pork Leg and they loved it!

My ingredients :

1 large sliced pork leg
2 cups vinegar
½ cup sugar
sprigs of dried oregano leaves,
salt to taste
2 cups water
1 head garlic (minced)
1 piece laurel leaf,
14 whole peppercorn,

PROCEDURE :

1. Place the pork leg pieces in a casserole together with the vinegar, water, garlic,
peppercorns, laurel and oregano
2. Place casserole over medium heat and simmer for 1 hour or until tender.
3. Add the soy sauce, sugar and continue simmering until the sweet-sour broth thickens.
4. Add salt
5. Serve hot with rice.

Now the question is

Oh your dish looks so yummy!! Looks like Pork Adobo!!! I grew up in the Philippines as a missionary kid and one of our favorite dishes until this day is Chicken/Pork Adobo!!!! Of course my Italian husband loves anything Italian lol :)

Thanks for visiting my blog as well. It’s nice to know I am not the only one dealing with kids and what they say. Terribly frustrating but I suppose it will pass in time.

My family loves Tacos and Mexican food! Though we are American and Australian!

That is the best philosophy with cooking ~ cook for your family’s tastebuds! That is what we try to do, and as a result, they enjoy a wide variety of foods!

It’s hard to say what the favorite meal is around here ~ everyone likes something different! One child likes Taco Soup, and the other likes Vegetable Beef Stew. Mr. Brownstone likes Chicken and Rice, and I like Pork Tenderloin, broccoli, and corn-on-the-cob!

That’s a tough call but I think my husband’s homemade pizza is probably our overall favorite. My mexican enchilada style pizza is also a big hit.

Much to my chagrin, it is pizza. Myself, I have had enough pizza to last me the rest of my everlovin’ life!

    That looks very appetizing.

My family loves Japanese food particularly tempura, yakisoba, and assorted maki.

Pizza! Not homemade of course. But if it were homemade…I’d have to say chicken and rice casserole.

The dish my entire family loves are homemade pizza. After that it would probably be chicken soup with matzoh balls.

    Have a great weekend!
